Keyword research tips and tricks

Keyword research is the core of any SEO campaign, since the keywords you pick during the research will be included in your website copy, into your PPC campaigns and any other website promotion campaigns. Keyword research is critical to the SEO process. Without keyword research all your efforts to optimize your site to rank high in the major search engines may be directed to the wrong terms and phrases. This will result in rankings for words that no one searches on. In a sense, keyword research is similar to customer research, because you are studying what words your potential clients use when searching for your service or product.

Here is what you need to do to run a solid keyword research:
• pick valid initial keywords
• use a variety of sources (your own knowledge, your own customers, your competitors)
• search from the point of view of your potential customers
• pick the small-medium competitive keyword phrases
• spot the topics for your content (site pages, articles, blog posts, press releases, etc)
• use keyword research data
• write website content

Keyword
Also known as search terms or query terms, keywords are the word(s) or phrase(s) a user enters into a search engine's Query box. A Search Engine Results Page (SERP) ranks indexed sites according to how relevant the Search Engine deems them to the searched keywords. One of the most important SEO Strategies companies can employ is to optimize their site pages with content that contains targeted keywords relevant to their products or industry.

Keyword Marketing
Keyword marketing is the use of keyword-optimized content and keyword-specific Link Text to emphasize a site's relevancy to those terms and thereby increase Rank for related web queries. Keyword marketing can also be done through keyword-based ad programs such as Google AdSense. Keyword marketing is an essential component of Search Engine Optimization.

Keyword Submission
Keyword submission is an all-inclusive term for the keyword research/selection, bid cost assessment and budgeting that companies undertake to begin Pay-Per-Click keyword campaigns with advertising networks such as Google AdWords, Yahoo! Sponsored Search and Microsoft AdCenter.

Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's own marketing efforts. Examples include rewards sites, where users are rewarded with cash or gifts, for the completion of an offer, and the referral of others to the site. The industry has four core players: the merchant (also known as 'retailer' or 'brand'), the network, the publisher (also known as 'the affiliate'), and the customer. The market has grown in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including affiliate management agencies, super-affiliates and specialized third parties vendors.

Keyword Research for Local sites:-
One of the problems with keyword research tools on the web like Keyword Discovery or Wordtracker is that their data is often unreliable, especially for low volume searches.
1. Select your topical keywords.
2. Make a list of all the regional keywords
3. Combine the topical keywords with the location keywords.

Keyword research tools:-

Steps of using Google Adword tool :-

2. Put your idea-keyword in the "Word or phrase" box at the top.
3. Read the capcha graphic and type it in.

4. Click on "Advanced Options".
5. Go down to where it says "Filter keywords" and click on "Local Monthly Searches". Change that to "Global Monthly Searches". Put 500 in the third box on that line. You can play with the numbers; some people only want keywords with more than say, 3000 monthly searches. Try "Local Monthly Searches" if you want only traffic from your country.
6. Click on "+ Add another". Change "Local Monthly Searches" to "Competition". Click on "High" as this tells you what advertisers are willing to pay more for. This denotes competition between advertisers for the use of that keyword.

7. Go down to the line just below the "Search" button. At the far-right side of the screen there's a button that says, "Columns". Click on that.
8. Un-check "Local Search Trends" and "Local Monthly Searches." Check "Estimated Avg. CPC". Click on 'save'.

9. This is the big moment! Click on "Search".
10. Look at your search results.... and analyze them. Which ones have the most CPC (Cost Per Click) value? Which ones have the most competition? And which ones have the most global monthly searches?
11. Identify search terms that are perfect for the page you want to create.
12. Click on the keywords you'd like to use, and check the competition on the first page of the Google SERPs (search engine results pages). If there's too much competition you're unlikely to do well with this keyword, but if there's few people using the exact words, this might work well for you!
Tips related to keyword :-
